I was anticipating a clear day today, so I went out at sunrise to get the clouds on the horizon and the sun coming up. It was a beautiful mixture of oranges and yellows painted across the sky. I could do this everyday. Oh, wait... :)

Sparse cloud day in North Texas. They showed up right before sunset. I love seeing the sun hit the horizon and seeing how the clouds and sky will reflect. Very intense orange, what a nice surprise :)

Beautiful altocumulus and crepuscular rays this morning in North Texas. I watched this for about 10 minutes before I started my day. The clouds were moving fast and the rays moving across the land equally as fast. One of my favorite sights :)

Fog moved in into the North Texas area shortly after the sun came up. I think it is beautiful. It was very peaceful being out there watching it move quickly and watching the light dance. A few minutes after this, it was all clear and will be the rest of the day. Glad I caught it :)

Rained for most of the day in Dallas, TX. Not much to photograph since the clouds were right on top of us. Went out after sunset to Trammell Crow Lake park in Dallas hoping for some light reflection to the low clouds and show off our beautiful skyline. Sometimes is pays to go out in the rain :)

Front was moving in this morning. The clouds were on different levels and moving in opposite directions. Love to watch this! Shot with the Canon 5D Mark II in still mode every 3 seconds with a remote timer over a one hour period. Processed in Adobe Lightroom. Assembled in Final Cut Pro

I was driving and I noticed the clouds and they were shaped like a Phoenix. By the time I stopped, crepuscular rays were coming out of the bottom of the cloud lighting the field up. What a cool sight. I love noticing such things now :)

For the second straight day in North Texas, we have had low stratus clouds and fog until the afternoon. The clouds swiftly clear out within a few minutes in the harsh afternoon light making photographing them difficult. I used a graduated filter to block the sun and bring out detail in the clouds, lucky a hawk flew into the frame!

The rain and the cold moved out this afternoon in North Texas. The low stratus clouds opened up to reveal blue skies and to provide for some sunshine. I love the way the light is hitting the field. Makes this Valentines Day look like spring!

Grey and raining for most of the day in North Texas. The clouds started to break up and some color started to show through for a few minutes. The sky was dark blue. I love how the clouds look inverted. Good way to end the day. Should be a gone one tomorrow :)

Altocumulus clouds in North Texas today. It was very cold (for us), with temperatures close to freezing. We are expecting sleet, snow later tonight. I really like the sweeping nature of these clouds, they are very dramatic. The strong winds really effecting them.

The last few days, the clouds have moved in and out of the North Texas area. Glad I captured these. I love crepuscular rays exploding through the middle of a cloud. It is like a spot light for the sky. Just wonderful!

Back in Texas after a few days in California. Captured this when the clouds were breaking up after rain this morning. Wonderful patterns and depth in the skies. I love all of the different colors. This one is very typical North Texas. Love it!

Enjoyed another beautiful sunrise this morning in California. Bayfront park in Millbrae just lit up when the sun hit the clouds and the water. I love all of the lines, there is so much to look at. This is one of my favorites!

Started my day early this morning in San Francisco. Went up to Hendrick Point overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge hoping there was fog and clouds. The view did not disappoint! The marine layer was covering the entire bay. This long exposure shows off the clouds, stars and this beautiful bridge. Love this one!

The clouds broke up this afternoon long enough to show some blue sky. The clouds have been beautiful all day. The cows in the foreground were quite interested in me. They look so small compared to their surroundings. Now this looks like Texas!

Something a little different today. I really like the way altocumulus clouds look when they are in front of the sun. For all of you photographers out there, they are like a giant soft box. This shot is HDR (high dynamic resolution), 3 exposures blended to show more foreground and the detail in the clouds. Hope you like it :)

A lunar halo (also called a called a 22˚ halo) is caused by the reflection, and dispersion of light through ice particles within thin, wispy, high altitude cirrus. The farmers myth says a lunar halo is the precursor of impending unsettled weather, especially during the winter. We shall see :)

Beautiful "classic" cumulus clouds in North Texas this afternoon. They were enough spacing in between the clouds to produce some dramatic crepuscular rays. Will see these a lot in spring time. Interesting to see this kind of scene in February :)

Wonderful cloud day in North Texas today. I was out photographing the sunset when I noticed lightning off in the distance. I waited on the front to get closer, set up the camera for 4 second exposures and captured lightning and these beautiful clouds. Love them at night!

It was a cloudy day in North Texas. I did have a number of shots I liked that could have been selected for today's image. I kept coming back to this one. Maybe it is my mood, it has been a busy week. I really like the soft colors and the barely visible clouds as the sun goes down.

Crazy beautiful sunrise in Frisco, TX this morning. It was set up before the sun came up. It was foggy, so I was not sure if I would get anything. I noticed there were mammatus clouds above. The sun rose above the fog and lit up the clouds above, producing this amazing scene. One of my favorites!

Beautiful wind swept cumulus clouds over Frisco, TX late this afternoon. I love the moment in this shot and the colors. The building and water tower in the background are nice for perspective. Look and feels like spring. One of my favorites :)

Mostly clear in North Texas today. I can usually count on clouds building on the horizon at sunset, tonight was no different. It was a little warmer today, so the birds were very active. Hundreds of birds flew into the frame making it easy to pick today's shot. Again, I love the color :)

I went back out this evening to capture the clouds at sunset. They were not as dramatic as last night, but subtly beautiful. I love the wispy cirrus clouds, the yellow sun hitting the tree line and the moon above. Wonderful rich color. This will never get old!

Crazy beautiful at twilight in Frisco, TX. The clouds were in the distance when the sun hit the horizon. 20 minutes later, low cumulus were overhead reflecting light from the sun and the city lights. The color and depth in this shot are amazing. I love the moon too, very dramatic!

Beautiful clouds this morning in East Texas. The cumulus were very low and seemed to be moving with the tree line. The trees are much taller than what I am used to seeing. I love the contrast between them and the sky. Wonderful!

Very strong storms in the Woodlands, TX this morning. After checking the radar, I decided to go set up for a shot and wait for the front to hit. This was a very dramatic looking storm, producing billowing mammatus clouds. The temperature dropped and it began to rain heavy. Love this one :)

While I was driving this afternoon, I was watching a front get closer and closer. I pulled over right when the leading edge was covering the sun to capture this shot. The clouds and the edges exploded with light producing beautiful crepuscular rays. Love it!
