I flew from Dallas to San Francisco today. I always have my camera out when I fly trying new things, especially after I know I have my shot for the day. This series was shot with a ND-4 filter and using a custom setting I set up on the camera (Canon 5D Mark II) to shoot Black and White. The clouds are ground were perfect for this. Thought I would share a few with you.

BEAUTIFUL…..I’ve always loved black and white pics
Nice pics! I’m glad to see that some people still use B&W at least sometimes. I usually use color but some of my pictures look better as black and white.
very nice, I always love the view from up there….have a great time in SF!
I relly like these shots, thanks for sharing
Kelly,
It’s good to see black and white used to such wonderful effect. It may be just my imagination or shortsightedness but something tells these pictures would not be as effective, not as good if done in colour. I think sometimes a photo is at its absolute best when stripped down to its essentials like these. Very fine indeed.

The people who have been caught up by this project have so much in common. You have opened our eyes, and made us mindful of the beauty in the skies above (or below!)us. We can`t drive to the mall without scanning the heavens, and pulling over to catch an image that has excited our imagination. We are sensitized to the fleeting nature of each view – we take time out of our days to just stand and watch as the forms grow and morph and vanish. And we find it hard to stop at just one, two, three shots. We want to share our vision with the world! It`s a joy to watch you getting such pleasure out of the exercise. Rock on!
What’s an ND4 filter and what special settings?
wow what an amazing idea!!!love your work so much…i wish i could have the patience to do something as beautiful as this…cheers!!!
Oh and i love capturing the sky too…its always so vibrant and so dynamic…esp sunsets…takes yoo away to somewhere more beautiful than the real thing…i love your sunset photos a lot…the colors just mesmerizing…i wanna see more…
Incredible work. I really enjoy the contrast in the images between the soft airy texture of the clouds vs the intricate (sometimes vast) details of the ground. Really nice collections of images.
