I do not find this photo particularly having any impact..lets say attraction….
I do not mean to demean what you are photographing .It is just lacking, compared to other photos I have viewed taken at the same time period.
I am no critic mind you, just a photographer with an opinion based on other works I have viewed.
The point of this exercise it to shoot everyday – rain, no clouds, grey days, sick days, holidays, etc… and I have, for 7 months
So lets look at today. I have been doing this for a while. Looking at the radar and forecast, I knew the clouds were going to move out, so I knew my window to shoot this morning was short. Pulled over on my way to work in a location that was relatively clear of power-lines, homes, etc… So, after I have my location, I want to shoot away from the sun. Makes for a better image. I take 20 or 30 images, drive to work – edit and post before my meetings start for the day.
The reason why I am telling you all of this is I want you to consider all of the variables that go into shooting a image each day. Some days the clouds, light and location are perfect and I get lucky. Other days, it is really difficult to get a shot for many reasons. I actually liked today’s image.
This photo reminds me of my love of the colour contrast between prairie land (gold) and sky (blue). Or for that matter, the gold colours of fall and blue sky which I have loved since I was a teenager and captured in very amateur photos here and there over my lifetime.
Did you happen to catch the opening ceremonies at the Olympics? It featured a very minimalistic hommage to the open prairie sky against patchwork prairie, with a boy (?) swinging up and down from the sky, set to the tune of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.” I’m guessing you would have been very moved by it… I definitely was…
“I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now … It’s cloud illusions I recall / I really don’t know clouds at all …”
